Indian men have changed over time, when it comes to their weddings. Earlier, all they used to do was – buy their wedding dress. And on the wedding day – shave, comb and put some perfume along with the dress.
But will this attitude work for your wedding? Not even in dreams (unless you plan to convert your wedding into a nightmare for your bride and the photographer).
So, dear grooms. Here are 5 tips for your wedding grooming:
1. Get over your aversion to make up
Yes you need to do that and start getting used to it, now that you will be living with a woman 🙂
Jokes apart, it is important to use make up for your ceremonies because:
- You probably took equal participation in all your wedding arrangements, getting yourself tanned in the sun. The stress will show on your face because let’s face it – even you can get rashes and dark circles. It is human skin after all! And you will want to hide all that and smile on your D-day.
- You don’t want your guests to say “Oh! The groom looks really tired”, “The bride looks so cheerful, what’s wrong with the groom” etc.
- Your bride to be will look very gorgeous. That’s for sure. And you must give her tough competition. It is your day too. Put an effort to look equally handsome!
2. Take care of your skin
You may have not done that before. But, you need to take care of your skin because you need to shine on your wedding day. Give your guests the opportunity to not look at the bride for once 😉
Simple ways to do that –
- Use a sun screen cream before stepping out. You don’t want your sun burnt and tan lines to show on your wedding album do you? It will be there 25yrs later as well.
- Needless to say, drink lots of water. It is the best way to keep your skin ailment free, acne free and dazzling!
- You can consult your hairdresser for your specific skin related problems.
3. Focus on your fitness
As the wedding day comes closer, you will have much more work to do, and much less time. You will need all your strength. There will be stress to deal with, and exhaustion to overcome. Every day.
Here are a few things you could do to keep the fitness fuss at bay-
- Exercise daily. It could be simple things like morning walk (or evening / night walks if you can’t do morning), running, an hour at the gym, yoga, mediation etc. Just add something into your routine which is not wedding-y.
- Try to take out time for your hobbies, even if just a few minutes. Half an hour of reading before you sleep, a few minutes of gaming etc. These will help you relax.
- Courtship is fun. I agree. But try to get ample amount of sleep. You will need your body clock in perfect shape in order to survive the 3-4 days of your ceremony. Besides, the cameras and videos hate the sleep deprived look on your face!
4. Hire a professional makeup artist for your wedding day
Do you even know how many Indian grooms end up looking average beside their gorgeous counterparts on their reception stage and wedding videos?
Your sister’s husband or your best friend or your distant cousin is not a good choice for an MUA, unless he is a professional makeup artist. Because they do not know how to make you look good for all the lights and camera. And they most certainly don’t hide your dark circles and rashes.
Talk to your own hairdresser, or hire someone good. And have a trial run with them. Tell them about your skin type and your wedding dress. They won’t overload you with makeup. Just the right amount that makes you good to go and get wed.
5. Avoid experimenting with yourself before marriage
Hairstyles and facials can go wrong. Horribly wrong.
Don’t experiment with your hairstyle right before the wedding. If you want to try a new look, hold the thought for now. Especially if you are thinking of hair color. Could be drastic.
Same for facials and other face treatments. You never know what could turn into an allergic reaction and you do not want to go into your own wedding with rashes or weird things sprouting all over your face.
Be conservative in this case. Go with a trusted style that has made you look good before and will surely make you look good on your day!
And above all, believe that you, the groom, needs to be well groomed too!
